NEW ALBUM: STERNUTATION (AMBIENT & BEYOND)

Sternutation: the act of sneezing. I found this word appropriate for the album because this is an eclectic mix of tunes spanning multiple genres.

I had a lot of material that I've worked on over the past 3-4 years experimenting with different styles and techniques while learning how to produce electronic music. Rather than leaving a bunch of "unfinished" material hidden away where no one can hear it, I would rather put out a bunch of music and learn along the way rather than spending too much time focusing on making one track "perfect." In an artist's eyes, our work is never "perfect." We will always perceive something about our work that we might change or do differently. At some point an artist has to say enough is enough and let the work speak for itself in it's raw existence.

Here are 21 tracks in various levels of "completeness." I hope you find something you enjoy.

PS, this album was supposed to release Sept 2, 2023 but the release date got entered as 2022 because I'm a big dumb dumb. It technically went "live" on Aug 16, 2023.

Cheers!

The Sad Piano (Healing Version)

The Sad Piano is a key arrangement that I wrote while heartbroken over a failed relationship. I've always been a fan of punk and emo music and I was going for something along the lines of "The End feat Lights" by Silverstein and "If It Means A Lot To You" by A Day To Remember. Both are duets where the lead vocalist performs with a guest female vocalist as both sides sing their perspective of the lost romance.

In particular, the Silverstein song is about two highly flawed individuals who both confess their wrongs to each other as the relationship goes up in flames.

While I am not a great writer of lyrics, I tried to write two corresponding piano parts that harmonize together near the end of the song in similar fashion. The melodies representing the voices of two lovers who, while they may have shared an amazing memory, have accepted the fact that they are not the best fit for each other. The final lonely voice cries out in sorrow.

It still brings a tear to the eye. :(

Dark Passenger (Dark Trance)

""I just know there's something dark in me. I hide it. I certainly don't talk about it. But it's there. Always." ~Dexter ("An Inconvenient Lie")"

The title "Dark Passenger" is a reference to the Showtime series Dexter: New Blood which I was watching when I began creating this track. According to Dexter Wiki: "The Dark Passenger is a general term for the burden Dexter carries as a result of his childhood trauma."

I think that we all have a "Dark Passenger" of sorts inside of us. Although hopefully not as extreme as the one(s) on display in the dramatic television series.

TRANCE EP by AS YOU WISH AMBIENT

Trance EP is a collection of five tracks where I did some experimenting with arpeggios.

"Digital Whirlwind" makes me think of a video game along the lines of a modern day Mega Man II remake in the Windman level. Or perhaps a modern day remake of the SNES and N64 series Pilotwings?

"The Guy Who Could Run Really Fast" makes me think of, well... a guy who can run really fast. Who needs a Crazy Taxi when you have "The Guy Who Could Run Really Fast!"

"Bubble Bauble" gets a little weird in the second half of the song thanks to some randomizers.

Don't ask me why I named one of the songs "Coin Coin Coin" because I'm not really even sure. I may have had a video game like Super Mario Bros on the brain?

"Dark Passenger" is my favorite track on the EP. I had recently watched Dexter : New Blood, a series which I thoroughly enjoyed. I think we all have a "Dark Passenger" of sorts inside of us, although hopefully not as dramatic as those portrayed in the TV series.

DRUM & BASS EP by AS YOU WISH AMBIENT

Ambient Drum & Bass EP is a small collection of drum & bass tracks. D&B is one of my favorite genres of electronic music. I hope you enjoy listening to these tracks as much as I did making them.

Snake Charmer features a hypnotic melody that draws you in to the music's grasp.

Wax On, Wax Off is a break-beat style track that pulls the listener in and then ushes them back. Repeat this process.

Jungle River Paradise will leave you floating in style down the jungle river of your mind.

Beware the warning siren and pounding beat of Kongo Dodongo before you get trampled!

El Hombre Solo is an acoustic guitar drum & bass track for something a little bit different.
